New Standards for Early Childhood Education and Care across Australia

More Information: www.deewr.gov.au/earlychildhood or www.mychild.gov.au

This reform will deliver a higher standard of care for children aged between birth and 12 years, and clearer and more comprehensive information for parents. It aims to improve children’s educational, health and wellbeing outcomes.

The National Framework consists of the Early Years learning Framework for birth to 5 years, The My Time Our Place (in draft form only) for 5-12 years and the National Quality Standards.

The new framework will include requirements for:
• lower staff-to-child ratios
• new qualifications requirements for all early childhood education workers
• A Quality ratings system
• National regulatory arrangements
• A new jointly-governed national body between the Commonwealth and the States and
Territories to oversee the new standards

We know that the early years forms children's learning. We want all children to have a quality early childhood education and care experience and we want parents to be well informed and confident that they are making the right choices for their child. This will be implemented over 10 years.
